Squash - Booking courts and playing information
With effect from September 2007, courts can be booked for squash or racketball as follows:
Courts 1, 2
Evening peak time is 6.00pm and 5.50pm respectively. These courts can be booked by telephone between 7pm and 7.30pm up to 7 days ahead after which time they are on open sale. On a Sunday the court booking sheets for that week will be placed on the court balcony to enable people to see which courts are booked and which are available. Any court not stamped within 48 hours of play is free for other people to stamp. Please stamp your courts to save embarrassment.
Courts 3, 4, 5
Evening peak time from 5.00pm, 5.30pm and 5.05pm respectively and these courts can be booked up to 7 days in advance by applying a named sticker to the appropriate sheet and time slot.
Cost of play
The cost of 40 minutes play is 1 token (£1) and a booking sticker (£1) irrespective of the time of day. Stickers and tokens are available to purchase from the bar. Please keep stocked up with these for times when the bar is not accessible.
It is advisable to sign the booking sheet before attaching the named sticker as this will validate your booking should the sticker become detached.
Visitors
Members are encouraged to invite visitors to play at the club. The fee – in addition to the normal sticker and token for a 40 minute sessions – is 2 stickers (i.e. £2) which must be named and displayed on the visitors’ sheet by the light meters before play.
It is expected that a guest will join the club if playing as a visitor on a regular basis, i.e. more than once a month or 6 times in a year. Arrangements can be made to provide temporary membership if a guest is staying locally for business or social reasons.
General Notes
Court sessions immediately after matches or competitions are booked at members’ risk. The match or competition will have priority although every effort will be made by organisers to book sufficient time for the event.
Court booking stickers should have a clear initial and surname. If the name cannot be identified as bona fide on a membership check then the sticker can be removed.
If you are unable to use a booked court advise the bar manager as soon as you are aware as there may be other members who could use this court. Please think of others and take positive action to avoid courts being wasted. Start time for courts is taken using the balcony clocks.
Marking racket heads - Some squash and racket heads have a black not clear edge – these mark the squash walls and increase costs of court maintenance. Please ensure if you have one of these rackets you apply a strip of white head protector tape – available from behind the bar/ from Roy Cooper or purchase a roll from a sports shop. This action will help keep our courts in good repair and assist in keeping court maintenance costs down.
Coaching courts - The club are very fortunate to have a number of qualified/ registered coaches who provide coaching on an individual and group basis. Coaching courts are agreed and booked through the committee. If courts are booked out for coaching and state "coach" on them these cannot be booked by other members unless the coaches have identified them as free. The coaching team will make efforts to free up courts that are not needed as soon as possible to allow other members to use them.
Shoes MUST be non-marking displaying membership tag and must not be shoes worn for outside activities. Sand and other materials damage the courts and renders the courts hazardous as well as damaging them.
The clocks on the balcony are used as defining the start/ finish time of sessions. Courts not being used 10 minutes after the scheduled start time (excluding club representative matches where opponents may be delayed) are available for other members to claim usage.
