Kenilworth Tennis Squash and Croquet Club

Kenilworth Squash Club rounded off 2008 with their Racketball Club Championships contested by two National Champions (photo left).

Cerryg Jones (UK over 35's Champion) was up against Mike Livock (UK over 45's Champion) and a packed gallery were treated to an entertaining final with a fantastic clash of styles. Cerryg's more attacking tactics against Mike's patient retrieving game produced some classic rallies but Cerryg's shots and advantage of being the slightly younger player gave him the edge throughout. Although Cerryg did run out a winner in three straight games, the Crackley Lane audience did witness the finest match seen for several years.

Earlier in the Racketball plate final Ian Cochrane had a harder battle overcoming Carolyn Lindsay in five games.

The finals of the Squash Handicap tournament were also played and Jon Holden was up against Gail Charles in a best of three games match under 'point a rally' rules. The handicapper proved to have judged things perfectly when Jon took the first game 15-14 and then the second 15-13.

The Squash Handicap plate proved to be slightly more one-sided when Will Lamb won in straight games over Freya Kerry. However she was handicapped by injury, having dislocated her knee the week before!

The photos of Sarah Jane Perry against the blonde girl, Victoria Lust (number 1 seed), were taken during the semi finals of the Under 19 British Championships, held in Nottingham, February 2008.

Sarah Jane came finally through in a physical affair (Lust can be a bit physical, and SJ isn't going to get pushed around!). In a match where every inch of the court was fought for, SJ came out the winner more often than not. After a lengthy injury break SJ thought she'd clinched it when Lust seemingly hit the tin, but the refs didn't see it that way! A couple more rallies and it was all over this time, 10-8 in the fifth.

With only a few hours rest though, there was just not enough in the tank for the final, SJ losing 3-0 to Victoria Bell.

The Squash Club finished off another successful season with their squash/ racketball finals night held at Crackley Lane.
